Akins Community 5K and Festival

The Akins High School Band welcomes the public to its southeast Austin campus for the first Akins Community 5K and Festival. 

This unique event includes a professionally timed 5K and a festival atmosphere that celebrates all the students, schools, and communities of the Akins area.

The Festival includes food, games, arts, entertainment and many other activities for the entire family.

All proceeds from the event benefit the participating schools, which are: Akins High School, Paredes Middle School, Blazier Elementary, Casey Elementary, Kocurek Elementary, Langford Elementary, Menchaca Elementary, Palm Elementary and Perez Elementary.

AISD Celebrates ‘Wake Up to School Breakfast’ March 7–11

Busy weekday mornings can make it challenging for families to find time for a healthy breakfast.  That’s why Austin ISD Nutrition and Food Services encourages more families to take advantage of the choices available for school breakfast.

This year’s National School Breakfast Week theme, “Wake Up to School Breakfast,” is a reminder that school breakfast provides a healthy start for students and fuels them for education and physical activity.

Amplify Austin: #InvestInAISD and Support Schools

Austin Ed Fund is participating in Amplify Austin to promote AISD schools and raise funds for the district's nationally recognized social and emotional learning program.

The 24-hour call for donations—in any amount—is a simple way to bring the community together to support nonprofit organizations.

Answer the call by donating to the Austin Ed Fund and promoting how #AISDProud schools' support students and inspire the future.

LBJ ECHS Family of Schools Joins Creative Learning Initiative

The LBJ family of schools has been selected to be the next vertical team to join the Creative Learning Initiative in 2016–17.

The Creative Learning Initiative provides professional development, community arts partnerships, dance and theatre specialists, and additional support to vertical teams to ensure that each and every student has access to arts learning and benefits from creative teaching. CLI is a community-wide effort between Austin ISD, the city of Austin, MINDPOP, local artists, businesses and philanthropic organizations.

Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee Meeting

The Board of Trustees appoints citizens to the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee to evaluate capital improvement needs of the district and to provide recommendations to the board on long-range facilities planning; amendments to the Facility Master Plan; and the scope of work and timing of future bond programs.

ABoR Tour of Schools

Austin ISD and the Austin Board of Realtors have partnered to give local real estate agents a look inside some of the schools that make us #AISDproud!

Realtors will get tours of four campuses in the LBJ Early College High School family of schools—Blanton Elementary School, Sadler Means YWLA, Garcia YMLA and LBJ ECHS—and enjoy hands-on demonstrations and performances by students.

How do we build healthy, active, creative and socially skilled students and adults?

AISD is weaving Coordinated School Health, creative learning strategies, social and emotional learning and culturally responsive strategies in all classrooms.

National and local research demonstrates that whole child education increases attendance, reinforces positive behavior and improves academic achievement.
