Austin ISD Radio Shows Expand to the Small Screen

Austin ISD's radio programs Breaking Down the Barriers and Educa Austin are expanding to television, when AISD Channel 22 begins broadcasting episodes of both shows in April. 

"We're really excited to take another step forward with our education programming and add video to our wonderful AISD staff-produced radio shows," said Reyne Telles, AISD executive director of communications and community engagement.

Austin ISD's radio programs Breaking Down the Barriers and Educa Austin are expanding to television. 

Beginning in April, AISD Channel 22 will televise episodes of both shows.

AISD Closed Friday, April 3

Austin ISD will be closed for a student and staff holiday Friday, April 3. 

All AISD offices and schools will be closed during this period. The district will resume regular business hours Monday, April 6.

Calling all Thunderbirds! All current and former students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to help us celebrate 75 years of awesome! Please join us for free kids' activities, food trucks, the Thunderband, historical displays and tours of the school.

It takes a village to raise a child, and we're proud of the village we've maintained for these 75 years. Come celebrate with us 2–5 p.m. April 11!

AISD Board of Trustees Approves New Principal Appointment

On Monday, March 30, Austin ISD's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of a new principal appointment for the Uphaus Early Childhood Center.

Through the board action, Leticia Botello will lead the school. Botello has served as the school’s interim principal since July 2014.

She previously served as Uphaus’ assistant principal, Walnut Creek Elementary School’s English Language Learners summer school principal and Allan Elementary School’s principal and assistant principal. Prior to her 10 years of education leadership, Botello taught for 15 years within Austin ISD.

Bowie and Ann Richards Students Lead the Ledes

The AISD Board of Trustees is recognizing 20 journalism students from James Bowie High School and Ann Richards Young Women's Leadership Academy tonight at its regular board meeting.

These students earned ratings of superior, excellence or honorable mention at the 2014 Texas Association of Journalism Educators State Conference.

The awards were for photography, newspaper writing, newspaper layout design, yearbook photography, yearbook design, video commercials and advertising.
