Media Advisory: AISD Opens First Elementary School Fine Arts Academy

AUSTIN, Texas—This fall, Blackshear Elementary School will open its doors as Austin ISD’s first elementary fine arts academy.

Who: All parents interested in enrolling their student at the Blackshear Fine Arts Academy are invited to an open house.

What: A short presentation will be provided as well as light refreshments. Staff will be on hand to enroll students for the fall.

My Brother's Keeper: AISD Answers White House Call to Improve Achievement of Young Men of Color

Today, leaders from the Austin Independent School District joined President Barack Obama and public school representatives from across the country to pledge to improve the academic and social outcomes of boys and young men of color.

Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz and Trustee Cheryl Bradley traveled to the nation’s capital to answer the White House’s call to support boosting efforts to prepare males of color for college and careers, to reduce the disproportionate number who drop out of school or who are suspended, and to help them succeed.

Movie Night

Austin Voices for Education and Youth is hosting a movie night to provide information to parents and community members regarding the proposed early childhood opportunity at the Allan facility.

Movie night takes place July 29 at the Allan Facility, 4900 Gonzales St., 78702.

Free food music and games begin at 7 p.m., the program runs 7:45–8:15 p.m. and "The Lego Movie" will be shown from 8:45–10 p.m. on an inflatable screen.

AUSTIN, Texas—Austin ISD joins Q2 and Austin Area Urban League at Q2’s Project R recruiting event to announce a partnership to promote careers in computer science, programming and technology applications to Austin ISD students.
