AISD Assistant Athletic Director Enters Hall of Fame

Austin, TX—Lynn Davis Pool, Austin Independent School District's assistant athletic director, has been inducted into the Texas Girls Coaches Association 2012 Hall of Fame.

"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by your peers," Pool, who was inspired by her high school basketball coach to choose coaching as a profession, said. "I admire the legends in who are in the TGCA Hall of Fame. They are all coaches I have looked up to for many years."

AISD Accepting Applications for Qualified Substitute Teachers

The Austin Independent School District is seeking quality candidates to be substitute teachers for the 2012-13 school year. Texas educators certified in the areas of math, science, social studies, English language arts, bilingual education and special education are in high need. Non-certified candidates with experience working as teaching assistants, in clerical positions or in special education are also in high demand.

Individuals are eligible to apply for substitute teaching positions if they meet any of the following requirements:

District Hosts Workshop for Middle School Parents

This month, Austin Independent School District will host two free parent workshops, one in North Austin and one in South Austin, to focus on the development of middle school students and help parents and educators learn what they can do to support their children during the transition to middle school.

The workshops are free to attend and will be led by Dr. Michael J. Nakkula and Dr. Eric Toshalis, co-authors of the book Understanding Youth: Adolescent Development for Educators. Snacks and childcare will be available at the workshop.

Austin ISD Graduation Rates Increase for Third Year

Austin, TX— Graduation rates for Austin Independent School District's class of 2011 have increased to 80 percent, according to the Texas Education Agency's recently released report on graduation and completion rates.

"I am proud of our students, teachers and principals, who are working hard to continue to raise graduation rates for all students and remain committed to our goals," AISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen said. "Higher graduation rates are critical to the success of our students, district and to the future of our local economy."
