Burnet Middle School Students Raise Money for Wildfire Victims

Austin, TX— National Junior Honor Society students at Austin Independent School District's (AISD) Burnet Middle School recently raised more than $400 to help Central Texas wildfire victims. A check will be presented to the American Red Cross of Central Texas on October 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Burnet Middle School library, 8401 Hathaway, Austin, Texas.

Statement from Austin ISD Director of Public Relations and Multicultural Outreach Regarding the Cancellation of Travis High School Football Game

Austin, TX— Austin Independent School District (AISD) Director of Public Relations and Multicultural Outreach Alex Sánchez released the following statement today regarding the cancellation of the football game between Monterrey Tech and Travis High School:

"Upon thoughtful consideration, Austin ISD decided to cancel the October 22nd football game between Monterrey Tech and Travis High School. The district believes that the game would present additional safety concerns."

Austin Students Invited to Men and Boys Conference

Austin ISD’s LBJ High School will host the first African American Men and Boys Conference on Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the high school campus, located at 7309 Lazy Creek Drive.

Motivational speaker, Ahmad J. Bell, will present the keynote address. Workshops will be offered for parents, students and educators on topics such as life skills, employment and responsible relationships.

National School Bus Safety Week is October 17-21

Austin ISD will say thank you to its transportation employees during National School Bus Safety Week, October 17-21. This year’s theme is, “Be Aware – Know the Danger Zone!”

Transportation employees will be recognized on Monday, October 17 at 6:00 a.m. at the Saegert terminal and on Tuesday, October 17 at 6:00 a.m. at the Nelson terminal. Refreshments will be provided for employees.
