Dear Austin ISD Community,
The Austin ISD Board of Trustees is calling a special meeting for Thursday, March 30, to discuss the possibility of slowing down our search for our district’s next superintendent. We will also consider at that meeting an extension of our agreement with Interim Superintendent Matias Segura through June 30, 2024.
The district is focused on improving the systems to meet students’ most pressing needs and giving those systems time to take root. Hiring the next Austin ISD superintendent is an immensely important decision that will shape the success of our students, the work of our employees, and the future of our city in deep and lasting ways.
We must also address immediate needs that would benefit from uninterrupted district leadership at this critical time, including early literacy for historically marginalized students, special education, staff morale and lifting up our most struggling schools. Thursday’s meeting will give us a chance to consider a revised process and timeline, hear from our community, and hold a vote if we choose to do so.
Trustees have spent many hours listening to the community, discussing the qualities we need in the next superintendent, creating a superintendent profile, and working to identify the process most likely to connect us with the best person for this position.
We are learning a great deal and appreciate the insights of everyone who has taken the time to share their thoughts.
We must make decisions now that will affect every student, employee, and classroom in Austin ISD during the next school year. We welcome your continued input and look forward to the chance to discuss and deliberate the best path forward.

Reunión extraordinaria de la Mesa Directiva del 30 de marzo

Estimada comunidad de Austin ISD:
La mesa directiva del Austin ISD está convocando una reunión especial para el jueves 30 de marzo para discutir la posibilidad de desacelerar nuestra búsqueda del próximo superintendente de nuestro distrito. También consideraremos en esa reunión una extensión de nuestro acuerdo con el Superintendente Interino Matías Segura hasta el 30 de junio de 2024.
El distrito se enfoca en mejorar los sistemas para satisfacer las necesidades más urgentes de los estudiantes y darles tiempo a esos sistemas para que se arraiguen. Contratar al próximo superintendente de Austin ISD es una decisión inmensamente importante que dará forma al éxito de nuestros estudiantes, el trabajo de nuestros empleados y el futuro de nuestra ciudad de manera profunda y duradera.
También debemos abordar las necesidades inmediatas que se beneficiarían de un liderazgo sin interrupción en este momento tan crucial, incluyendo la literacidad temprana para estudiantes históricamente marginados, educación especial, la moral del los empleados y ayudar al avance de las escuelas con más dificultades. La reunión del jueves nos dará la oportunidad de considerar un proceso y un cronograma revisados, escuchar a nuestra comunidad y celebrar una votación si decidimos hacerlo.
Los representantes de la mesa directiva han pasado muchas horas escuchando a la comunidad, discutiendo las cualidades que necesitamos en el próximo superintendente, creando un perfil de superintendente y trabajando para identificar el proceso con mayor probabilidad de conectarnos con la mejor persona para este puesto.
Estamos aprendiendo mucho y apreciamos las ideas de todos los que se han tomado el tiempo para compartir sus pensamientos.
Debemos tomar decisiones ahora que afectarán a cada estudiante, empleado y salón de clases en Austin ISD durante el próximo año escolar. Agradecemos sus continuas aportaciones y esperamos con interés la oportunidad de debatir y deliberar sobre el mejor camino a seguir.
