AISD Librarian Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Elizabeth Polk, assistant director of library media services for Austin ISD, received the state’s top honor for library service April 20 during the Texas Library Association Annual Conference in San Antonio.

Polk was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award before thousands of cheering colleagues.

She started her career at AISD in 1966, working as an elementary school librarian before becoming the AISD elementary library coordinator.

For almost 30 years, she has led the AISD library program, serving a diverse, urban public school district with 116 campus libraries.

During her more than 50 years with the district, generations of school librarians have been inspired by Polk’s enthusiasm, kindness, leadership and advice.

Austin ISD salues her on this well-deserved accolade.
