As our students, families and staff clean up after the Oct. 30 floods, Austin ISD focuses on providing support and resources to those impacted. Links to several resources, including information on transportation, housing and debris pick up, have been provided by the City of Austin and Travis County for your convenience.
Time Off for Employees Affected by Flood
We understand that many staff members who work or live in the affected neighborhoods may have had difficulties getting to work because of the flooding Oct. 30. For regular classified and professional employees, wages will be paid and will not affect their leave accounts.
If an employee has suffered extensive damage to personal property because of the floods and the employee needs special consideration for paid leave to relocate and/or restore property and belongings, please contact Employee Assistance Coordinator Kevin Casey at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-414-9687. AISD will assist all affected employees with paid leave to every extent possible.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program provides a number of benefits for employees who have suffered loss through this disaster. Short-term counseling on how to deal with loss, stress and resiliency is available. Employees with legal or financial questions resulting from this disaster may receive guidance from EAP's attorneys and financial counselors. Additionally, EAP has numerous partners in the community who can provide support. More information about these benefits can be found at austinisd.org/eap and awpnow.com. Benefits are both free and confidential. For additional information, call Kevin Casey or Alliance Work Partners at 1-800-343-3822.
The Employee Disaster Relief Fund provides support to those who need to establish or re-establish a habitable and safe residence following a natural disaster and who do not otherwise have the money or insurance to cover such needs. Awards of up to $500 (less taxes) can be made for those qualifying. For additional information, please visit austinisd.org/edrfund or call Kevin Casey.
The Employee Disaster Relief Fund is sponsored fully by employee donations. To make a donation, please visit austinisd.org/edrfund and click on the Donate button.
The Family Resource Center at Mendez Middle School, managed by The Austin Project, is seeking donations to support families with children in AISD schools who have been impacted by the flood. Contributions may be made at: http://theaustinproject.org/get-involved/donate.
Finally, many Palm Elementary School teachers lost supplies that were paid for personally and may not be covered by insurance. Donations are being accepted at the Palm Elementary Flood Relief Fund.
