No Cases of Measles Reported in Austin Area

Dear Austin ISD families, faculty and staff,

We are aware of the increased concern regarding the measles outbreak that has occurred in California. We are working closely with the Austin-Travis County Health and Human Services Department and health experts at Seton Healthcare Family to ensure we are receiving the most up-to-date information about this outbreak.

It is important to remember that as of today, there have not been any cases of measles reported in the Austin area. We will continue to monitor the situation in California and provide information from the Texas Department of Health as it becomes available.

The safety and health of our students and staff remain our top priorities. Please remember measles is a vaccine-preventable disease. For more information regarding measles, we encourage you to visit the following websites:

Additionally, the American Association of Pediatrics released a statement Feb. 2 urging parents to get their children vaccinated against measles. Read the full statement here

Thank you for your trust in Austin ISD.

Sincerely,

Paul Cruz, Ph.D.
Superintendent
