AISD Participates in Juneteenth Parade

Help AISD teachers, staff and board of trustees members celebrate Juneteenth as we take part in the city of Austin's annual parade!

Set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, the Historical Juneteenth Parade will follow a route leading to Rosewood Avenue.

Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Kealing Middle School, 1607 Pennsylvania Ave., to take a school bus to the starting zone, located at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and IH-35. The parade will last until about 11 a.m.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday commemorating the day Texas learned that President Abraham Lincoln had declared an end to slavery. The official holiday is June 19.

The Greater East Austin Youth Association, the city of Austin and Austin Parks and Recreation sponsor the parade.
