Blazier Elementary's Successful Virtual Book Drive

Blazier Elementary School and Education Austin worked together with First Book to coordinate a Virtual Book Drive to promote literacy. The teachers and administrators at Blazier worked tirelessly to raise more than $1,900 so their 900 students can receive the book "What To Do With a Rebozo?" by Carmen Tafolla. Dr. Tafolla, author of more than 20 books and newly named by San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro as the first Poet Laureate of the City of San Antonio, visited the school on Feb. 20, 2014.

Other elementary, middle, and high schools in Austin ISD also have the opportunity to facilitate their own virtual book drives. If you want more information, please contact Montserrat Garibay with Education Austin at (512) 472-1124 or MontserratG@educationaustin.org.
