January is School Board Recognition Month

The Governor has proclaimed January 2012 as School Board Recognition Month to build awareness about the crucial role elected school Trustees play in our communities and schools, as well as provide school district staff and community members the opportunity to show their appreciation to their respective Board of Trustees members.

This year’s theme, as designated by the Texas Association of School Boards, is “Helping Our Kids Shine.” AISD is appreciative of the countless hours these elected officials commit to governing one of largest school districts in the state. AISD staff are planning special small activities at each January Board Meeting and will officially recognize its board members at the Jan. 30 Regular Board Meeting.

In AISD, elected Trustees serve four-year terms, in which they volunteer countless hours to understand the district work and make critical decisions to support and ensure the success of the children of Austin.
