AUSTIN, Texas—Austin City Councilman Bill Spelman appointed AISD’s Summit Elementary School’s Thuy Nguyen to the Asian American Quality of Life Advisory Commission on February 27.“I love helping the underprivileged,” Nguyen said. “It is an honor and a blessing to be in a position which allows me to assist the Asian American population in improving their lives and having their voices heard.”

Austin ISD trustees voted Monday night to approve a new program that establishes targets for the number of contracts awarded to women- and minority-owned businesses, known as a Historically Underutilized Business program. Austin ISD’s technology department has found a way to get parents of secondary students their report cards faster. The district will be going digital on all secondary report cards this month for the third six-weeks report cards.Of the approximately 23,000 secondary students overall, 9,292 students are already opting for digital report cards.
