AISD Police Host 2013 Anti-Gang Summer Camp for Students
More than 80 students had the opportunity to learn from police officers, fire and emergency officials and members of the media during the Austin Independent School District’s second annual Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) summer camps.

Zavala Student Wins National Hispanic Heritage Safety Poster Contest
Last week Zavala Elementary held an assembly in honor of fifth grade student, Sofía Valadez who won the national Hispanic Heritage Safety Poster Contest, put on by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The contest is held annually during Hispanic Heritage Month to teach elementary school children in Hispanic communities about safety.

Austin ISD Will Serve Up Good Nutrition for Local Children This Summer
Bringing healthy summer meals to the Austin community ensures kids have a healthy vacation and return to school ready to learn. This summer, Austin ISD will serve anyone 18 years old and younger healthy meals at more than 50 campuses at no cost through the Summer Food Service Program. Today, Austin ISD released its annual demographic report. The report shows the district will see student population increases in northwest, far south and southeast Austin. AISD Board Delays Implementation of STAAR End-of-Course Exam “15 Percent” Grading Requirement
Under district policies approved by the Austin ISD Board of Trustees at its Feb. 27 meeting, a student’s score on State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) end-of-course exams taken during spring 2012 will have no effect on that student’s grades or class rank.
