Cultural Uni-tea: AISD Hosts 26 Uruguayan Teachers
Last week was one week of firsts for the 26 teachers visiting Austin ISD from Uruguay.Two who were visiting Pillow Elementary School said that, for the first time, they had flown in a plane, eaten tacos and drunk Dr Pepper.Each teacher in the two-week program stays with a host—an AISD teacher who volunteers to show them what Austin living is like, both at home and at work.

This weekend, a pipe burst on the third floor of the academic building at Paredes Middle School. The flooding damaged classrooms, the basement and administrative spaces.Because of the damage caused by the flooding, there will be no classes at Paredes on Monday, Sept. 26. Faculty and staff will report at 11 a.m. to assess their classrooms and workspaces, but students should not come to campus.
