Día de Los Niños Drive-Thru Event Brings Together the Community with Kid-Friendly Giveaways and More

Community members can participate in the Día de Los Niños event at Mendez Middle School on Friday, April 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. A popular annual celebration in Mexico of children and their wellbeing, the gathering is a drive-thru event with some walk-up stations. It includes kid-friendly giveaways, safety and education tools, and more.

The Día celebration also promotes literacy, culture and language. To help commemorate this, the Austin Public Library Bookmobile will be on-site giving away books.

Other highlights include car seat safety demonstrations by EMS and a fire truck for the kids to experience. Austin ISD will offer pre-K registration for the upcoming school year.

Austin Public Health will be on-site administering COVID-19 vaccines for those who need the lifesaving shot. No appointment is necessary.

The event is open to the public and is in partnership with Councilwoman Vanessa Fuentes and Austin ISD District 2 Trustee Ofelia Maldonado Zapata, as well as Austin ISD, Austin Fire Department, Austin Parks and Recreation Department, Austin Police Department, Austin Public Health, Austin Public Library, First Church and Mission Capital.
