Austin ISD Board Approves Public Participation Policy Update

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved a policy update to begin accepting general public comment Board information sessions starting in November 2020. 

The policy was updated at the Oct. 26 Regular Voting Meeting. The November Board Information Session will take place Monday, Nov. 2 due to calendar adjustments made to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday.

Details on general public comment and public testimony: 

General Public Comment

  • Board meeting: Board Information Sessions.

  • Date: Second Monday of the month, unless otherwise indicated.

  • Sign-up window: 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. day of the meeting.

  • Method: Pre-recorded over the phone.

  • Duration: One minute.

  • Number of Speakers: 60 Speakers (10 speakers on the waiting list).

  • Eligible Topics: Unrestricted.

Public Testimony 

  • Board meeting: Regular Voting Meetings.

  • Date: Fourth Monday of the month, unless otherwise indicated.

  • Sign-up window: 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. day of the meeting.

  • Method: In-person (pre-recorded over the phone during COVID-19 precautions).

  • Duration: One minute.

  • Number of Speakers: Unlimited.

  • Eligible Topics: Action Items (consent agenda items, items up for a separate vote, public hearing items).
