Austin ISD Staff to Call Families Directly Ahead of First Day of School

Families should expect a call from campus within the week

Austin ISD families will receive calls from campus staff within the next week to gather individual information and student needs for the first day of school Sept. 8.

The individualized conversations will include discussions on technology needs and general information on the upcoming school year. The discussions are essential for Austin ISD staff to prepare for the first four weeks of school in regard to on-campus staffing and support for families.

Connecting with families will be an ongoing effort to support student needs during this unique year. Through this process, families will have direct contact to the campus as needed. However, this initial outreach will not be in place of the survey to continue with remote learning or opt for on-campus learning beginning Oct. 5, if health conditions allow. That survey will take place prior to the Oct. 5 phased-in period of reopening.

Families with multiple children will receive calls directly from each students' campus

Background
Austin ISD will begin the school year on Sept. 8 with four weeks of remote learning. In an effort to ensure the safety of all students and staff, the district is working to ensure all students have the tools they need to access the remote instruction to minimize the number of people on campus during the remote learning period. If a student does not have technology access, district staff will help ensure they get that access.

More information, including detailed plans for instruction, food services and transportation, can be found in the Austin ISD Open for Learning Plan.
