Intel Surprises Oak Springs Teachers with Back-to-School Supplies

AUSTIN, TX—Intel employees will surprise Oak Springs Elementary School teachers with school supplies to help reduce the costs of setting up their classrooms.  

Who: Intel representatives and Oak Spring Elementary School teachers

What: After an Intel executive speaks briefly, the teachers will be led to the cafeteria, where they will be surprised with bins filled with grade-appropriate supplies.  Intel employees purchased the supplies for teachers, while Intel supplied the bins.

When: Tuesday, Aug. 20; Set-up at noon, teacher surprise at 1 p.m.

Where: Oak Springs Elementary School, 3601 Webberville Road

Background: Intel worked with Austin Partners in Education to identify a school that would benefit from supplies based on need and the size of school. Oak Springs Elementary School, located in East Austin, has a 98.1 percent economically disadvantaged student population. The school participates in numerous programs from College Prep and UT Neighborhood Longhorn Tutoring to Reading Is Fundamental and Marathon Kids.

A manager from Intel will work with an Oak Springs Elementary School teacher throughout the year to assess further classroom needs.
