AISD Breaks Ground on New Performing Arts Center

AUSTIN, TX—The Austin Independent School District will celebrate its art-rich community at the groundbreaking of the Performing Arts Center.

Who: District-wide marching band; Meria Carstarphen, superintendent; Pauline Dow, chief academic officer; Lawrence Fryer, chief operations officer; and Greg Goodman, fine arts director.

What: Groundbreaking and construction preview. An all-city band comprised of 11 high schools will perform together for the first time since 2006.

When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6

Where: Browning Hangar, 4209 Airport Blvd.

Background: AISD evaluated 28 project proposals and three AISD properties. The Board of Trustees approved the purchase of the Mueller site in April 2011. Construction on the facility began in April 2013. The district expects the PAC will be completed by late 2014.

Parking will be available at Browning Hangar, Mueller Central and on nearby streets.
