McCallum Student Documentary Featured at Cannes Film Festival

A film by McCallum High School freshman Sofia Smith Hale will be featured in the Short Film Corner of the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival.

Hale, age 15, conceptualized and filmed the documentary as part of her Visual Arts Major in the school's Fine Arts Academy. This is her second film.

The film, How to Be Kids, portrays a young working class teenage girl and her approach to life. The film follows her as she explores her neighborhood, and hangs out with a friend. Her reflections on life reveal her unique and thought provoking persona, and show how one can find deeper meaning in the simple things that life offers.

The Short Film Corner, which screens about 1,500 entries, acts as a professional market where aspiring filmmakers can see what other people are doing. And passers-by, on request, can view their shorts in small booths.

The 64th (2011) Cannes Film Festival begins today and will run through May 22.
