More Than 500 Akins Eagles Graduate

Akins High School pride was evident today as more than 500 seniors graduated in a ceremony at the Frank Erwin Center.

Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz spoke of some of the students' achievements, including: the senior phlebotomy practicum hosted the most successful blood drive in school history, 11 seniors passed their corrections officer certification exams and 11 passed their 911 dispatcher certification exams.

The Akins JROTC received the 2013-14 Distinguished Unit Award for outstanding Cadet Leadership and Community Support activities. Cadets contributed more than 2,200 hours of community service, including sending needed items to troops in Afghanistan.

This also marked the 10th consecutive year that the Eagle Band earned Sweepstakes honors at UIL competition.

Congratulations to the Akins High School class of 2014!
