Update on Dyslexia Programming

The first of a series of video courses featuring multisensory reading strategies is in the final phase of development and will soon be made available to classroom teachers through the E-campus system. These video courses will provide teachers access to high-yield instructional strategies designed to support all struggling readers, including students with dyslexia. Training for campus dyslexia designees has been offered beginning in October and continuing into November. Designees have been provided with updated best practice guidelines for assessment and identification of students for the Dyslexia Program. Bilingual designees have also been provided with training specific to the assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse learners. Follow-up support will be provided to designees through a series of Dyslexia Roundtable sessions, the first of which will take place in December.

Last month, an advisory committee was formed to review programming options for students with dyslexia who need intensive instructional support. These options, along with the high-yield multisensory reading strategies, will be integrated into the overall Response to Intervention framework. Stay tuned for more updates about AISD's focus on dyslexia.
