Schoolyard Public Use

Schoolyard Public Use Policy & Procedures

Austin Independent School District Board Policy GKDA (Local) permits public use of school facilities by non-school groups for educational, recreational, civic, or social activities, when these activities do not conflict with school use or Board Policy. AISD schoolyards are open to the public outside of school hours and each campus will maintain at least one gate open to the community.

State drops CRT inquiry into Austin ISD (En español)

The state has dismissed its May 2025 inquiry into our district’s alleged violation of the prohibited concepts law. This resolution does not involve any admission of wrongdoing on the district’s part, and the state’s actions indicate the legal investigation is no longer worth pursuing. We have always maintained full compliance with the law and this matter was well-positioned for conclusion.

Our Commitment to Safety: Addressing Wednesday's Incident

Dear Austin ISD families,

This was a difficult week and before we head into the weekend, I want to personally address the gaps in communication during Wednesday’s police incident in the Barton Hills community.

Most importantly, I deeply apologize for the stress and fear that we undoubtedly contributed to this week. Our top priority at Austin ISD is the safety of our students. We exist to educate, but we cannot fulfill that purpose without ensuring the safety of every child and staff member in our care.

New this Year: Progress Reports and Report Cards are heading straight to your inbox (En español)

Starting this fall, progress reports and standard report cards will now be emailed to families directly to their email.

Why it matters: We’re committed to building connections between our students’ homes and our classrooms. By sending these documents directly to families, we’ll ensure they won’t get lost at the bottom of backpacks and caregivers can check in on how their child is doing throughout grading periods.
