Diwali
Diwali, or Deepawali, known as the “festival of lights,” is celebrated each year in October or November, falling on October 20 this year. Spanning five days, it is observed by millions of Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs around the world. The festival’s name comes from the Sanskrit words avali (row) and deepa (clay lamps), together meaning “a row of lights.” In keeping with this meaning, light holds deep symbolic significance throughout the celebration.
