We are more than halfway through February! How can the shortest month always feel so long?

Last week I shared with you that this is the time of year where we are closing out the current year and starting to gear up for the upcoming school year. One thing we want to share with you is the Executive Hiring Guide. This document outlines the process we follow when we hire Principals, Executive Directors, Assistant Superintendents and Chief-level positions.

It’s going to be a great week in Austin ISD, and l continue to love to be a part of this great team supporting our staff and students!

Monday, February 19
Today is President’s Day — and it is a day off for both employees and students. I know many people are grateful for a 3-day weekend.

Tuesday, February 20
It’s a Tuesday that’s going to feel like a Monday! Today, we’ll receive an update on deliverables in our Special Education Initiative which includes our TEA Order. We track our progress on this initiative like a large-scale bond project: each week we look at recently met milestones and deliverables, upcoming deadlines and any obstacles and challenges we may face in the coming weeks. We want to get this right for the students of Austin ISD and we are continually working to refine our systems and support our staff so that we can be our best.

Later in the morning, I’ll meet with my Senior Leadership Team. In the afternoon, I’ll review my weekly presentations and spend some time studying our Mental Health Initiative and provide feedback to the team. I’ll end the day attending the District Advisory Council meeting.

Wednesday, February 21
This morning is set aside for me to visit with the principals at the Monthly Principal Meeting. After that, I’ll head to the E3 Alliance Meeting, followed by a check-in with the Texas Urban Council. In the afternoon, I’ll have a 1:1 with Trustee David Kauffman (pet parent to Hamilton — see above image) and then meet with our Lone Star Governance Coach, Ashley Paz. In the evening, I hope to be able to attend a viewing of The Right to Read. If you’re interested in attending this viewing, get your tickets on the AFS website.

Thursday, February 22
This morning begins with a breakfast meeting with Trustee Zapata, where we’ll discuss our Summer Youth Employment Program with Travis County and the City of Austin. Then I’ll head back to the office to review tonight’s presentation for the Board Meeting before I head to the Austin Chamber Board of Directors Meeting where I’ll give an update on AISD Intiatives and collaboration opportunities with the Chamber. . This evening at the Regular Board Voting Meeting we’ll review our progress on Goal Progress Measures 2.1 and 2.2 (Map Growth Math), discuss our fiscal forecast and receive an update on our Equity Assessment.

Friday, February 23
This morning I’ll meet with our Teaching, Learning & Leading leadership team. I’ll then meet with Dr. Allen Weeks from Austin Voices. I’ll also meet with our Austin Ed Fund Executive Director, Michelle Wallis. In the afternoon, I’ll prepare for the weeks ahead. In the evening I’ll have the honor of speaking at the Annual African American Heritage Celebration at the PAC. This celebration showcases some amazing Austin ISD talent and highlights the richness of the African American community in Austin ISD. You won’t want to miss it!

¡Ya llevamos más de la mitad del mes de febrero! ¿Cómo es posible que el mes más corto parezca siempre tan largo?

La semana pasada compartí con ustedes que esta es la época del año en la que estamos cerrando el año en curso y comenzando a prepararnos para el próximo ciclo escolar. Una cosa que queremos compartir con ustedes es la Guía de Contratación de Ejecutivos. Este documento describe el proceso que se sigue en la contratación de directores de escuelas, directores ejecutivos, superintendentes asistentes y puestos de nivel de jefe.

Va a ser una excelente semana en el Austin ISD, ¡y me sigue encantando ser parte de este gran equipo que apoya a nuestro personal y estudiantes!

Hoy es Día del Presidente, y es un día festivo tanto para los empleados como para los estudiantes. Sé que mucha gente agradece un fin de semana de tres días.

Martes, 20 de febrero
¡Es un martes que se va a sentir como un lunes! Hoy recibiremos información actualizada sobre los resultados en nuestra iniciativa de Educación Especial que incluye nuestra orden de la TEA. Seguimos nuestro progreso en esta iniciativa como un proyecto de bonos a gran escala: cada semana nos fijamos en los logros recientemente alcanzados y los resultados, los próximos plazos y los obstáculos y desafíos que podemos enfrentar en las siguientes semanas. Queremos hacer las cosas bien para los estudiantes del Austin ISD y estamos trabajando continuamente para perfeccionar nuestros sistemas y apoyar a nuestro personal para poder dar lo mejor de nosotros.

Más tarde en la mañana, me reuniré con mi equipo de alto rango. Por la tarde, revisaré mis presentaciones semanales y pasaré algún tiempo estudiando nuestra Iniciativa de Salud Mental y dando mis comentarios al equipo. Terminaré el día asistiendo a la Reunión del Consejo Consultivo del Distrito.

Miércoles, 21 de febrero
Esta mañana tengo programada una reunión mensual con los directores. Después, iré a la reunión de la E3 Alliance y, a continuación, me reuniré con el Consejo Urbano de Texas. Por la tarde, voy a tener una reunión individual con el miembro de la mesa directiva David Kauffman (padre de la mascota Hamilton; vea la imagen de arriba) y luego me reuniré con Ashley Paz, nuestra especialista de Gobernanza de Lone Star. Esta noche, en la junta ordinaria de votación de la mesa directiva, revisaremos nuestro progreso en las medidas de progreso de los objetivos 2.1 y 2.2 (MAP Growth de matemáticas), comentaremos nuestro pronóstico fiscal y recibiremos una actualización de nuestra evaluación sobre la equidad.

Viernes, 23 de febrero
Esta mañana me reuniré con nuestro equipo directivo de Enseñanza, Aprendizaje y Liderazgo. Luego me reuniré con el Dr. Allen Weeks de Austin Voices. También me reuniré con nuestra directora ejecutiva del Austin Ed Fund, Michelle Wallis. Por la tarde, me prepararé para las próximas semanas. Por la noche tendré el honor de hablar en la Celebración de la Herencia Afroamericana en el Centro de Artes Escénicas (PAC, por sus siglas en inglés). Esta celebración muestra algunos increíbles talentos del Austin ISD y destaca la riqueza de la comunidad afroamericana en el Austin ISD. ¡No se lo querrán perder!
