Dear Austin ISD Families,
The Texas Education Agency has recognized seven Austin ISD schools as high-performance or high-progress Title I schools for 2014-15. Title I schools are campuses where at least 40 percent of students are from low-income households.
The TEA recognized:
84,791 students. 129 campuses. One community.
We are unique—yet unified.
Diversity is our strength, but every AISD communication shares a common goal: to be effective as a trusted source of timely and relevant information for our communities.
As Austin’s school district, AISD stands for innovation and diversity, for excellence and equity in education.
Three Austin high schools will get the opportunity to participate in a new program to keep students in school, develop leadership skills and prepare them for jobs.
Austin Interfaith made the announcement today at AISD headquarters with Sen. Kirk Watson and AISD Board Trustees Paul Saldaña and Ann Teich speaking on behalf of the program.
Beginning this week and ending Aug. 14, Austin ISD will operate on a summer efficiency schedule.
The program--which includes all district campuses being closed on Fridays--reduces energy, water and wastewater costs during the summer months. During the summer 2014 shutdown the district saved about $716,000.
What: Late starts provide the necessary time for on-going support for teachers, sharing of best practices, and built-in time for assessing the effectiveness of program implementation.
10:00 a.m. classes start at 10:15 a.m.
