Austin ISD Community Unites Amidst Critical Incident
Austin ISD Community,
Today one of our Austin ISD Police officers sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound while on duty at Northeast ECHS. We're grateful that our officer is now recovering and could be released from the hospital as early as this evening.
More than 1,200 students and staff were kept safe and secure while officers actively investigated the incident, which was only possible with the leadership of Austin ISD Police in partnership with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
We are grateful for the support and patience our community has shown by actively responding and providing additional support to our schools.
It’s also important to note the work it takes to get students and families reunited after a lockdown like today. Thank you to our families for working alongside us in the reunification process to ensure our students were safely transferred to their families’ care.
Additionally, I would like to share how proud we are of our students and staff for their commitment to staying safe and following our established protocols. It’s going to take some time to process what we went through today.
Thank you, students for following the plan, listening to teachers and caring for one another.
Finally, I’d like to extend my immense gratitude to our school leadership and operations teams for working seamlessly to open the reunification site at the Delco Center, including using 25 buses to transport students and supply food and water.
There is still work to be done and the investigation is ongoing. We'll continue together as a community one day at a time.

Hoy uno de nuestros oficiales de la Policía del Austin ISD sufrió una herida de bala que no puso en peligro su vida mientras estaba de servicio en la Preparatoria Northeast. Estamos agradecidos de que nuestro oficial se está recuperando y podría ser dado de alta del hospital tan pronto como esta noche.
Más de 1,200 estudiantes y personal estuvieron a salvo y seguros mientras los oficiales investigaban activamente el incidente, lo que sólo fue posible con el liderazgo de la Policía del Austin ISD en asociación con las agencias policíacas locales, estatales y federales.
Estamos agradecidos por el apoyo y la paciencia que nuestra comunidad ha demostrado respondiendo de manera activa y proporcionando apoyo adicional a nuestras escuelas.
También es importante señalar el trabajo que se necesita para que los estudiantes y las familias se reúnan después de un cierre de emergencia como el de hoy. Gracias a nuestras familias por trabajar junto a nosotros en el proceso de reunificación para asegurar que nuestros estudiantes fueran transferidos de forma segura al cuidado de sus familias.
Además, me gustaría compartir lo orgullosos que estamos de nuestros estudiantes y personal por su compromiso de mantenerse a salvo y seguir nuestros protocolos establecidos. Nos va a llevar algún tiempo procesar lo que hemos vivido hoy.

Por último, me gustaría extender mi inmensa gratitud a nuestros equipos de liderazgo y operaciones de la escuela por trabajar sin problemas para abrir el sitio de reunificación en el Centro Delco, incluyendo el uso de 25 autobuses para transportar a los estudiantes y el suministro de alimentos y agua.
