Austin ISD Teacher Earns Top Honor by National Association for Bilingual Education

Perez Elementary School Teacher María Jesús Sebastián recognized for efforts made on behalf of English Language Learners

Perez Elementary School teacher María Jesús Sebastián has been recognized by the National Association for Bilingual Education as its Teacher of the Year. 

She met one of the many qualifications of distinguishing herself as an outstanding teacher and educational leader. She played an active and useful role in her community as well as in her school. 

Coronavirus Precautions

Austin ISD has been closely following the media reports and information shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). While no cases have been suspected among our local community, please be assured that we are monitoring the situation and will provide information as it becomes available from the public health authorities. Public health officials believe the risk to our school community is low at this time.

Statement from the Board President on behalf of the AISD Board of Trustees:

The Board of Trustees had its first opportunity to discuss Dr. Cruz’s announcement at our February 24, 2020 Board meeting.

First and most importantly, Austin ISD and our employees are focused on our students and families. That’s our priority every day and will continue to be so during this time of transition.  

AISD and University of Texas Host 2nd Annual Education Collaborative Research Forum

Distinguished members in the field of education and researchers gathered in the main hall at the AISD Performing Arts Center for the second annual UT/AISD Collaborative Research Forum on Friday.  

The purpose of the forum was to tout the work that the University of Texas and AISD researchers are conducting in pre-K-12 education.

Pre-K and Kindergarten English Learner Summer School Registration

Summer school registration for Pre-K and Kindergarten English learner students is March 2–13.

English Learner summer school provides opportunities to receive exciting and fun language development experiences to prepare students to be successful in kindergarten and first grade.

Application forms will be available from students’ homeroom teacher at each school beginning March 2.
