Repurposing Brooke Elementary School

""

Overview

Brooke Elementary School is a 52,282 square foot school facility constructed in 1954 situated on 5.38 acres in East Austin bordered by 4th Street, Linden Street, 5th Street and Tillery Street.

Brooke closed after the 2019-2020 school year. Students were reassigned to either Govalle Elementary School—for students living north of the Colorado River—or Linder Elementary School—for students south of the river.

Current Status

Brooke is currently being utilized by the Austin ISD Department of Special Education staff for administration and student testing. The Special Education team supports the Austin ISD mission of ensuring that children who receive special education services are provided with access to a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment. The team also works to ensure that students receive a quality education that enables them to achieve their potential and participate fully in future social, economic and educational opportunities.

Brooke also houses the Ombuds Office, which was reestablished in Spring 2024. The Ombuds Office is a safe and confidential space for students, families and community members to ask questions, share concerns and seek informal assistance in resolving issues related to Austin ISD. For more information, visit the Ombuds Office’s website.
