High School Dual Language Programs

The program is intended for students who participated in middle school dual language or are proficient in Spanish. Students enrolled in this program will take two courses taught in Spanish per year, one Spanish Course and one core content course taught in Spanish.

One course per year:

  • Spanish 5: Heroes & Monsters
  • Spanish latin American Studies
  • Cine las Américas
  • AP Literature
  • Advanced Language and Career Applications (Senior year) 

One core content (Math, Science or Social Studies) per year

*The Language Proficiency Assessment Committee will review the educational history and proficiency of students entering Dual Language for the first time in high school to determine best placement.

Some campuses offer an additional elective course taught in Spanish. Please contact your campus to find out which dual language courses are available.

Upon successful completion of the dual language program, students will have the opportunity to receive the Austin ISD Dual Language Seal of Biliteracy.

Please note Austin ISD bus transportation is not provided to students who choose to transfer to another campus for its dual language program.
