From the Shipyard to the Schoolyard

In honor of Veterans Day, we thank and show appreciation to those who have sacrificed to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. We're also shining a spotlight on the remarkable journey of Adam Aniol, an AISD military veteran who traded his military uniform to work in education.

Raised on a small farm on the outskirts of San Antonio, Adam's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and a steadfast commitment to community.

“Hoop Dance and what it means to be Native American” (En español)

Join us this month as we learn about the rich cultures and heritage of the Native American Community as Austin ISD celebrates Native American Heritage Month.

To the sound of the drum…and 17 hoops in his hands, Stephen Freeman uses one hoop at a time to tell a story.

It is called Native American Hoop Dance—a dancer skillfully maneuvers the circular hoop around their body to create intricate and mesmerizing patterns.
