All Austin ISD meal sites will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 7. 

To provide food for the three day weekend, children and their caregivers will receive two meal packs on Thursday, Sept. 3, and three meal packs on Friday, Sept. 4.

AISD provides free curbside meals for any child under 19, or those over the age of 19 who are utilizing special education resources or currently enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma.

Austin ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde has named Larry Throm as the district's new Chief Business Officer.

Throm will begin his role in Austin ISD on Monday and will oversee both the finance and operations divisions.

During his 40-year career, mostly in school finance, Throm has worked in similar roles in six other districts, most notably in Austin under Superintendent Pat Forgione, and in the Dallas and Lubbock ISDs. In addition, he previously worked for Austin-based school finance consultants Moak, Casey & Associates.

Backpacks provided directly to campuses for distribution

The annual Austin ISD Back to School Bash is going virtual this year, along with an increase of 13,000 additional backpacks distributed to students. 

The district welcomes a new chief of staff, expands trustee support with new office

Austin ISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde has announced to staff the appointment of Jacob Reach as Chief of Government Relations and Board Services. 

Reach, currently serving as the district's chief of staff, will be responsible for establishing the new office to best support AISD's trustees and the district. 

"Jacob's experience with AISD and familiarity with our board of trustees will be invaluable in this position," Elizalde said.
