Superintendent Check-In: Middle School Q&As

How will remote instruction look different from last semester? Firstly, Austin ISD will use a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning. Synchronous online classes are those that require students and instructors to be online at the same time. Asynchronous learning allows you to take online courses on your own schedule. Each campus will provide the details of the individual campus bell schedules. Another way instruction will be different is, unlike the spring semester, traditional grades will be recorded this school year. There are currently no plans to use P’s (proficient) or I’s (incomplete) for grades. Progress reports and report cards will be sent at the end of each grading period.

AISD Offers Telemedicine Services for Students and Families

AISD wants to make sure that our community is safe and healthy. That's why AISD is offering Telemedicine services for our students and their families.

Telemedicine will be available in campus health rooms this school year through our partnership with Virtual Care for Families. Services include rapid COVID-19 tests, as well as a test for strep throat and the flu. While students won’t be back on campus until at least September, families should know about the service so they can choose to opt-in while enrolling if interested.

Will AISD have the tuition PK program and if so, will it be a reduced cost for remote learning?

That is a great question that many of our families are asking right now.

We will offer remote learning for our pre-K students in both our state-funded program and our tuition program. Our tuition rates will remain $4,950 for the year and $550 per month for Pre-K4, and $2,475 for the year and $275 per month for Pre-K3 half-day program.

Superintendent Check-In: Special Education Q&A

How will Austin ISD serve special education students in a virtual classroom, and will I, as a parent, have input?

Your student’s special education providers will carefully consider your student’s individual needs and present levels of academic and functional performance (PLAAFPs). This will include consideration of your student’s goals, supports, services, and regular education remote learning activities.
