Austin ISD Seeks Input on Qualities in Next Superintendent

Austin ISD is seeking candid feedback on the desired attributes, characteristics and traits the community would like to see in the district's next superintendent. The goal is to identify these qualities as the executive firm leading the search begins to develop the job profile.
 
The district encourages community members to complete the anonymous online surveys to share their valuable input.

Norman-Sims Elementary Renaming Committee Meeting

Austin ISD initiated the renaming process for the modernized Norman Elementary School in accordance with board policy. The district is accepting nominations via online form through Monday, May 4.

The Norman-Sims Elementary Campus Advisory Council—composed of school personnel, parents, and community members from both the Norman and Sims communities—is serving as the renaming committee.

Effective Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m., all Austin ISD tracks, fields and courts — including tennis courts, football fields and basketball courts — will be accessible. Playgrounds will remain closed to further protect the community from the spread of COVID-19. AISD requires everyone on district grounds to practice social distancing.

Austin ISD to Mail Learning Packets

AISD staff will begin mailing packets of learning materials today for Pre-K-eighth grade students. 

To reduce the number of people at curbside food distribution sites, learning packets will no longer be available at food sites. Food distribution will continue as usual.

Students of families who qualify for free and reduced lunch will automatically receive these mailed packets.

Barton Hills Elementary Choir Continues to Have Their Voices Heard

Barton Hills Elementary Choir has performed at many unique stages including Austin City Limits and SXSW. But no performance would quite prepare the choir for what was about to happen. 

When Austin saw its first confirmed cases of COVID-19, Barton Hills Choir was in the process of preparing for a performance at SXSW that was honoring singer Ozzy Osbourne and his long career. Osbourne was supposed to be in attendance and even sing with the choir. But, due to the recent outbreak, the concert had to be canceled.
