Supporting Our Special Education Staff
The Austin Independent School District is committed to providing an exceptional special education experience for our students and families.
We also value all of our employees who work endlessly to serve our students. For this reason, as soon as March, we will be implementing market adjustments for several of the positions that work with the growing number of students served by special education.
To address the critical shortage of special education staffing needs in both Austin and throughout the country, the district is also including sign-on bonuses for newly hired special education teachers and special education teacher assistants.
This year, all AISD employees received a historic 6% pay increase, and teachers, counselors and librarians with more than five years of experience received a 7% increase. We also increased the yearly stipend for special education classroom teachers from $1,000 to $2000 (+$500 if serving in Life Skills, SCORES, and SBS settings). We are #AISDproud to now say that we are increasing the stipend for eligible special education staff, such as Speech Language Pathologists.
We are committed to supporting the needs of staff and our individual special education students through increased resources, staffing support and compensation adjustments. Our special education faculty and staff play a vital role in unlocking each child’s potential for success.
