News from Dr. Cruz: Time for Celebration

Team AISD,

The results are in, and our team has a lot to celebrate!

Our graduation rate is at an all-time high of 89.7 percent. That record-setting number includes gains for every student group despite some of the highest state accountability measures to date.

AISD received great marks on the state's accountability system. As a district, we exceeded all targets set by the state. Our students performed well, with 113 schools earning the highest possible rating. Four of those schools had previously been on the Improvement Required list, and I am so proud that they are back at the top.

While we celebrate these successes, we also know there is work to be done. There are achievement gaps for some student groups—particularly African-American and Hispanic students.

AISD is dedicated to changing this trend and has a number of initiatives in place to address achievement gaps. Along with maintaining a strong focus on academics, we're continuing to emphasize Social and Emotional Learning throughout the district. Other efforts to support male students of color include partnerships with My Brother's Keeper, the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color and UT Project MALES

Part of reinventing urban education is ensuring that all students have the opportunity to excel—and All Means All. Positive steps are being made every day, and we should be proud of the forward momentum at AISD.

These accomplishments reflect the hard work, passion and dedication of our team. Thank you for everything you do to support ALL students in achieving success.
