News from Dr. Cruz: Thank You to Our Teachers

Team AISD,

When Crockett High School teacher Christina Burbank was named high school teacher of the year, her students were eager to sing her praises. "Because of you, I know I'll be great at whatever I do," shared one student.

Teachers impact the lives of students during their classroom days together and for years afterward. Perhaps the most notable accomplishment is when a teacher instills the confidence, skills and knowledge that students needs to excel at anything they choose.

It was an honor to recognize Ms. Burbank, Allison Ashley from Perez Elementary School and Katherine Martin from Webb Middle School as our teachers of the year. I hope you'll make plans to attend Salute, where one of these three outstanding educators will be named the Austin ISD teacher of the year.

This week also marks the recognition of our 2015 National Board Certified Teachers. I am so proud of the 24 teachers who have pursued this certification and that our district once again leads the state in the number of National Board Certified Teachers.

As we approach May, which is National Teacher Appreciation Month, take a moment to thank our teachers for their daily work and for the impact they're making for decades to come.

Paul Cruz, Ph.D.
