Teaching in the classroom was one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my career. I know firsthand how hard teachers work. They fill many roles – as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors.
Every day, teachers influence the lives of students, parents and communities in significant ways. And, as we all know, a teacher's legacy continues long after the school year ends.
This week, during Teacher Appreciation Week, students and families will have the opportunity to thank their teachers for all they do.
On May 19, the district will thank and honor many of our finest teachers at Salute, our annual celebration of educator excellence. Students, families and staff will gather at the district’s new Performing Arts Center to congratulate and honor Teachers of the Year, National Board Certified Teachers, Teachers of Promise, Assistant Principals, Principals, Librarians, Counselors and Classified Staff of the Year.
We also will name the Austin Teacher of the Year, who will serve as the district's nominee for the Texas Teacher of the Year Program.
To the more than 6,000 teachers who make our district strong, during Teacher Appreciation Week, I want to say: Thank you for all you do!
