This week, we say farewell to four departing members of our school board: President and District 4 Trustee Vincent Torres, District 1 Trustee Cheryl Bradley, District 6 Trustee Lori Moya and At-Large District 9 Trustee Tamala Barksdale.
We welcome four new trustees: District 1 Trustee Dr. Edmund Gordon, District 4 Trustee Julie Cowan, District 6 Trustee Paul Saldaña, and At-Large District 9 Trustee Kendall Pace.
January is School Board Appreciation Month, and this year’s theme is “A Work of Heart.” I can’t think of a better way to describe the dedication of the committed individuals elected to serve on our school board. These unpaid volunteers spend countless hours on behalf of the students, staff and school community. They establish policies, approve the annual budget and tax rate and oversee general district operations. They listen to their community and speak on behalf of their constituents. Their efforts truly are a work of heart.
Throughout the month of January, our district will celebrate School Board Appreciation Month. At the Jan. 26 regular board meeting, we will show our appreciation with student performances, artwork and a recognition ceremony.
If you have the opportunity, I hope you will recognize and thank our trustees. They make me #AISDproud!
