News from Dr. Cruz: The Places You'll Go

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go. —Dr. Seuss

Welcome back, Team AISD!

I hope the summer offered an opportunity for you to relax, renew and reconnect with family and friends. As educators and lifelong learners, I know summer also is a wonderful season to embark on new adventures—from reading to road trips.

I brought some of my favorite readings on my cross-Texas road trip with my family, and was able to reflect on one of my favorite leadership books, “The Tipping Point,” by Malcolm Gladwell. As a school district, AISD must have strong relationships with every campus community.

Every day, we call upon agents of change—connectors, mavens and salespeople—to help us build the critical mass to ensure all students have the support they need to reach their full potential.

I know this work begins with you—your lessons, your class, your commitment.

As a teacher, the back-to-school season was among my favorite times of the school year. I remember returning to school excited to begin collaborating with my colleagues, preparing my classroom and writing letters to each of my students to welcome them to my class.

When school starts Monday, I will be visiting campuses to greet new and returning team members and students. If you see me at your school, please stop by to say hello. Until then, please join me and the AISD community online by sharing what makes you #AISDProud on Twitter. For me, it’s pretty simple: You make me #AISDProud.
