Last Monday, the Austin ISD Board of Trustees voted to adopt Professional Pathways for Teachers, a new teacher appraisal system.
The overarching goals of PPfT are to promote professional development for teachers and increase student achievement.
PPfT uses multiple measures to determine teacher efficacy. Instructional practice is weighted at 50 percent and includes student engagement, problem solving and classroom climate. Professional growth is 25 percent, with metrics such as professional development, relational communication and compliance. Student growth makes up the remaining 25 percent of the appraisal.
The system is designed to reward teachers for outstanding performance and leadership.
Initiated in response to new state requirements, PPfT was developed by a workgroup including Education Austin, the American Federation of Teachers and AISD teachers, principals and administrators. PPfT was piloted at 35 AISD campuses and will go into effect districtwide this August.
Thank you to everyone who helped create a pathway for teachers to pursue their passion and even better support our students.
