News from Dr. Cruz: Making the classroom come to life

Team AISD,

A holistic approach to education results in more than improved academics. It provides students with a rich experience with benefits that last a lifetime.

Fine arts is part of that richness, and AISD is proud to recognize March as Youth Art Month. Schools throughout the district are celebrating with special events including photography and chalk art exhibits, musical performances and arts festivals. We're even having a student-created film showcased at Alamo Drafthouse leading up to SXSWedu.

Our dedication to fine arts continues all year long, in part through the Creative Learning Initiative. Through CLI, fine arts is used as a foundation for learning. Students study Shakespeare through sketching, investigate biology by making collages and dive into history lessons through dramatic performances.

The innovation of our educators and fine arts staff makes the classroom come to life. Thanks to each of you who creatively pursues new ways to engage our students. They'll remember the lessons you've taught them for years to come.
