Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15–Oct. 15 and recognizes the independence days of many Latin American countries and the history and cultures of the Caribbean, Central and South America, Mexico and Spain.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month is a way AISD can increase understanding among all students of the richness and diversity of Hispanic culture.
We are stronger and better as a district because of the influence of Hispanic leaders, past and present. Many of these leaders are the namesakes of AISD schools, including Ortega Elementary School, named after Daniel F. Ortega, who was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his distinguished service and honorable conduct in World War II.
It makes me #AISDproud that our district recognizes the Hispanic leaders who came before us and the diversity of our students and staff today. Enjoy your month of celebration!
