February is African-American Heritage Month, a time to honor the legacies of those who have paved the way for Austin ISD students.
From Dr. Charles Akins to L.C. Anderson to Volma Overton, AISD has benefitted from countless African-American leaders. They have laid the groundwork for us to pursue equity and excellence.
One of the ways we're celebrating this month is by hosting the 33rd Annual Austin ISD African-American Heritage Celebration. The event is 3–4:30 p.m. this Sunday at the AISD Performing Arts Center. I invite you to join me in recognizing the accomplishments of outstanding students and honoring leaders from our community.
As you go about your daily work, I hope you'll take to heart the opportunities we have. Together, we can help all students achieve their best, and I appreciate the dedication that each of you gives to the future of AISD and our community.
