This week, the Community Bond Oversight Committee shared the status of our 2013 bond projects, and there is a lot of good work to report.
Every school is receiving capital improvements, with nearly 90 campuses getting major renovations such as accessibility upgrades, air conditioning repairs or new roofing. Bonds are also supporting technology with 34,000 mobile devices for students, 7,000 new laptops for teachers and network infrastructure upgrades.
To engage with minority-owned businesses, many of our bond projects have been awarded to Historically Underutilized Businesses, and we are currently developing a formal HUB policy and program.
Bond projects are also focused on safety and sustainability. Our bond contractors had less than half the rate of accidents compared nationwide, and 73 percent of projects exceed energy efficiency requirements.
Managing bond projects is a big job, and thanks to the CBOC—working alongside AISD staff—they are being completed on time, with quality and within budget.
