News from Dr. Cruz: Climate and Culture

Sept. 16, 2014

Team AISD,

When you come to work each day, do you feel energized, appreciated and committed to achieving your goals? As your interim superintendent, I am committed to ensuring that all students and staff interact every day in a safe, supportive environment. This year, our goal is to unite around one effort: to create even better outcomes for students by building a more positive culture and climate in the district.

We want our parents, visitors, school partners, and staff to know that whenever they interact with an AISD staff member, they can expect courtesy and respect, communication, responsiveness and follow-through, and a positive environment.

Our entire district has been recognized as No Place for Hate, the largest urban district in the nation to receive such a designation. We are focusing anti-bullying efforts on all students and specifically special education and LGBT students. This is a perfect time for us to reflect on our actions that support courtesy and respect.

I hope we can all reinforce what is good about working in AISD, and tell the world we’re proud of our culture and climate, as well as our accomplishments.

Paul Cruz, Ph.D.
Interim Superintendent
