Board President's Update, Oct. 3

Dear Austin ISD Community,

Thank you for your commitment to Austin ISD and the superintendent search process. Your feedback continues to help us shape our direction.

Ray and Associates Inc., the executive search firm hired by the board of trustees to facilitate the process, continues to recruit candidates. The deadline for applications is Oct. 20, and all interested candidates can visit the search firm’s website to submit an application.

The board continues to discuss the best approaches to engage the public with finalists for this incredibly important position.

We always welcome your thoughts and invite you to share them with the board via email or during the Citizens Communication portion of any meeting. I encourage you to check the superintendent search website frequently for updates to the schedule and to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information on the search for a new superintendent.

I would also like to recognize one of our city’s greatest pairings of community and art—the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The festival stretches over two weekends and is a great example of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) in action.

On behalf of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees and the entire school district, I’d like to congratulate the Barton Hills Elementary School choir, led by music teacher and choir director Gavin Tabone, for their performances during the festival. They will take the stage from 11:15 a.m.–noon each Friday. Congratulations!

Sincerely,

Vincent Torres
