Parent & Community Engagement

Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. Henry Ford

Austin ISD is dedicated to providing parents with the support they need to be invested in the success of their children. The Austin ISD Department of Special Education is committed to provide resources and information to support students, families, staff, and community members to strengthen partnerships, foster collaboration, and promote positive outcomes for students with disabilities.

Our Special Education initiatives include:

  • Parent Power Hours for the 2022-23 school year hosted by the AISD Department of Special Education. Parent Power Hours will alternate between in person and virtual each month. These sessions will include a variety of topics related to students with disabilities and special education.
  • Bring together information and resources that can help families and guardians make informed decisions about their child’s education.
  • Monthly Parent and Community Newsletters will provide information on the Department of Special Education’s organizational structure, instructional strategies that can be used at home, information and resources on the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Process, Individualized Education Program (IEP) information, overview of instructional strategies utilized in the classrooms, information on training and resources for parents and community members, and more.
  • Increase community awareness and support.
  • Continuing the work from the 2021-22 school year in the Inclusion Work Group that is open to all parents, guardians, staff, and community members.
