The Board of Trustees met in Executive Session in 2010 and 2011 to discuss the purchase of land for a high school in south Austin. Since Board members were reviewing potential school sites, these meetings were held in Executive Session under the real estate exception to the Open Meetings Act. Meeting in Executive Session preserves the District’s competitive negotiating position during purchases of real estate.
After the initial meetings, the Board of Trustees requested that the Superintendent convene a planning team to develop recommendations for the academic programming for a south high school. These recommendations would inform the site selection process established in the Board-approved Facility Master Plan Framework.
On March 17, 2014, May 5, 2014, September 8, 2014, and October 6, 2014 the Board of Trustees in Executive Session discussed potential sites for a south Austin high school.
On June 2, 2014, the Board of Trustees reviewed and discussed projected populations and theoretical enrollments in high schools serving south Austin (i.e. Akins, Austin, Bowie, Crockett and Travis). These schools are defined in this context as south high schools because all or part of the school’s attendance boundary is located south of the Colorado River. On March 9, 2015 the Board of Trustees continued their discussions of projected population and estimated enrollments for South Austin. Click on the links below to review the March 9, 2015 board agenda item and attachments.
